The Public Interest Law Association (PILA) is a student organization at Georgia State University College of Law that seeks to promote the goals of public interest law.

Public interest law aims to protect the rights of the public at large and more particularly, members of society whose rights go unprotected because of some form of prejudice (indigent defense, elder law, AIDS law, etc.). PILA is associated with the national organization "Equal Justice Works."

Fellowships

We cordially invite you to our 25th Annual PILA Auction!

Bring your friends and mingle with our professors, students, alumni, and community members and enjoy an evening of music, food, and most importantly, to bid in the live auction.

Past auction items have included weekend getaways, high-end jewelry, gift cards to local restaurants, gym memberships, and bowling with professors.

All proceeds from the PILA auction go towards summer fellowships for law students working in unpaid public interest positions.

In previous years, we were able to provide for students working at DeKalb County District Attorney’s office, Georgia Innocence Project, Georgia Public Defender Standards Council and the HeLP Legal Services Clinic, among others.

"The PILA Auction is the College of Law’s biggest event of the year. Offering everything from a dinner with a faculty member to a bar review course, a weekend at a mountain cabin, and a host of other interesting items, the auction raises over $20,000 a year.

The proceeds are then used to provide support for our students who wish to work at pro bono jobs over the summer.  We hope you’ll all join us for this wonderful and worthy cause!"
